Ramble Along The River
Enjoy perfect walks in and around Cambridge with a pub at the beginning, middle or end (or all three!)
Pub walks around Cambridge
Cambridge is a beautiful city to visit and best seen on foot.
Whether you’re walking along the famous ‘Backs’, following the river Cam or strolling through the city centre for a bit of retail therapy we have the perfect spot for the beginning middle or end of your walk (and maybe all three).
We may be biased but we think The Millworks is the perfect spot. As the name may suggest we’re inside the old mill, right on the mill pond. We’re a pub and a restaurant — the best of both worlds.
You can watch the iconic Cambridge punts come and go whilst you enjoy a glass of something cool and a delicious hot meal before, partway through or at the end of your walking tour.
Walks that begin (and end?) at a pub
Good walks end at a pub. Great walks start and end at a pub.
We’re open from 11:30am Monday to Friday and from 11am at the weekends. You could meet with friends, family and fellow hikers for a ‘pre-match’ drink or a spot of lunch, then meet back here for dinner!
Or if you’d like a change of scene why not end your walk at our sister restaurant The Cambridge Chop House — just the other side of the mill pond. Or at The Astronomer in Eddington?
Dog-friendly pub
We’re a (very) dog-friendly venue. Your furry friends are very welcome at The Millworks.
Your pooch is allowed in all our outdoor areas and we have dog-friendly areas indoors too. We’re child-friendly too (kids love watching the huge waterwheel inside!) so bring the whole family along.
We expect all guests (including dogs) to be well-behaved of course. Just let us know if you’re bringing a dog (or dogs) when you book and we’ll make sure to save you a suitable spot.
Short or long walks around Cambridge
There are dozens, probably hundreds of different walking routes around Cambridge.
Not sure which to take? Walks of Cambridge can be a good place to start. Some of our favourites from their lists include:
Colleges & The Backs — a gentle, circular 1.5 mile, 30-minute stroll around some of the prettiest parts of the city
Colleges, Greens & Commons — a slightly longer, 3.8 mile loop walk which takes a little over an hour
Bridges of Cambridge — a more challenging ‘out and back’ 9.6 mile hike, zig-zagging back and forth across the river.
And wouldn’t you know they all bring you within a whisker of Millworks! Whichever route you choose we’re pretty sure you’ll deserve a pint or glass of something as reward for your hard work!
Practicalities
We know that planning your perfect day out, walking around Cambridge and starting, ending or breaking your day with a fantastic lunch or dinner takes some planning so here are the practical bits:
Location
We’re just outside the centre of the city (close enough for convenience, far enough from the hustle and bustle): how to find us.
Parking
On-street parking nearby is free after 5pm Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays. Sidgwick Avenue, Ridley Hall Road, Newnham Walk, Newnham Road and Wordsworth Gardens — all have on-street parking.
Lammas Land is the nearest car park (five minutes walk away) and has 75 bays, including disabled parking and spaces for motorcycles. Its around £5 for four hours (free for blue badge holders and motorbikes).
Opening hours
We’re open 11:30 - 21:00 Monday - Thursday and from 11:30 - 21:30 on Fridays. At weekends: Saturday 11.00 - 21:30; Sunday 11.00 - 17:00.
Wheelchair access
We have a wheelchair accessible entrance and a suitable toilet, so all our guests can enjoy their visit.
Allergies and special dietary requirements
We like to keep things fresh and seasonal so our menu changes fairly often — but we try to have lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. Some dishes will have a dairy-free or low-gluten option (where we adapt the dish slightly to suit). There should be something for everyone. Check out our current menus.
If you have any special dietary requirements and especially if you have allergies or intolerances please speak to one of our friendly team.
